Victoria Falls: One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World

Visiting Zimbabwe gave us one of the most memorable travel experiences we’ve had as a family. Victoria Falls, known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, delivered everything we expected and more. From aerial views in a helicopter to close-up moments on the walking trail, a peaceful sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, cultural performances, and a stay at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel, every part of this trip felt special.

Our journey began with a helicopter ride over the falls. The aerial view revealed the massive scale of Victoria Falls in a way you can’t understand until you see it from above. The Zambezi River roars into the gorge, creating a curtain of water that stretches farther than the eye can see. From the air, we could see the patterns formed by the mist, the cliffs, the rainforest surrounding the falls, and how powerful the water really is. It was a calm and breathtaking experience that set the tone for the rest of our visit.

Walking the trail along the falls brought an entirely different perspective. You hear the deep thunder of the water as it crashes into the river below. The mist rises high, soaking the plants and creating small rainbows along the path. Every viewpoint offers a new angle of the falls, each one more impressive than the last. Standing so close to one of the world’s magnificent natural wonders reminded us just how unique this place is.

We also went to Wild Horizons Elephant Sanctuary for a peaceful and profound interaction with the elephants. The guides informed us about the region's conservation initiatives, elephant care, and how they interact with their environment. We spent time riding, studying, and strolling with these gentle giants, which provided us a more profound understanding of their behavior and the work being done to protect them.

Our stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel made the experience even better. The property is elegant and historic, filled with charm and beautifully kept grounds. The service stood out, from the warm welcome to the nightly turn-down service; everything felt thoughtful and consistent. The food was excellent, with options that were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Sitting on the terrace with a view of the Victoria Falls Bridge in the distance made the stay even more memorable.

We also spent time enjoying local culture, including a performance by the Boma dancers. Their clothing, music, and rhythmic movements told stories about community, tradition, and celebration. Their energy filled the room and made everyone feel involved. The show was both fun and educational, teaching us about the history of the dance styles and the meaning of the clothes and instruments. Observing them was inspiring, and the children, in particular, thoroughly enjoyed participating in the clapping and dancing activities.

Another highlight of our trip was a peaceful sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. The gentle movement of the water, the colors of the sky, and the wildlife along the banks created a serene experience. We saw birds gliding over the water, hippos lifting their heads above the surface, and the sun setting behind the trees. It was one of the most relaxing moments of the trip and a perfect way to end the day after exploring the falls and local attractions.

Zimbabwe gave us a mix of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. Every moment, from witnessing the falls to immersing ourselves in local traditions, unwinding on the river, and relishing the comforts of the hotel, was unforgettable. We created a core memory for our family that we will never forget. If you visit Victoria Falls, prepare for breathtaking views, meaningful interactions, and a peaceful environment that stays with you long after you leave.
